CHAPTER THIRTEEN

REVELATION CHAPTER THIRTEEN

CHAPTER THIRTEEN PREFACE

13:1,2 "And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority."

Let's remind ourselves that "the beast" is primarily a king. Although a beast also represents a kingdom, a beast is never a kingdom only, and it is always a king before it is a kingdom (see Daniel 7). This is very important because many scholars have limited the beast in Revelation 13:1,2 to the revived Roman Empire thinking that the Antichrist is the next beast who shows up in 13:11. This brings in all kinds of complications and it makes the number of the beast (verse 18) apply not to a man, but to "mankind," and yet 11:18 says, "For it is the number of a man," not the number of a kingdom, or "mankind."

Since the scripture is always the correct interpreter, let's turn to Daniel 7. In Daniel 7 (the vision of the four beasts) we see that Daniel's four beasts match the ones in Revelation. The three beasts who are described first in Daniel 7 (and they come up out of the great sea exactly as in Revelation 13:1), are said to be a lion, a bear, and a leopard - exactly as we find a leopard, bear, and lion in Revelation 13:2. That isn't all. In Revelation 13:2, the beast is a leopard, bear, lion, and dragon. In Daniel 7, he is a lion, bear, leopard, and then a nondescript beast who has ten horns (Daniel 7:7,8). The beast in Daniel 7 has the same number of horns found in Revelation 13:1,2. That is, these beasts are identical. The fourth beast of Daniel's vision (Daniel 7:7) is the beast of Revelation 13:1,2. He is a nondescript beast and is not named in Daniel 7:7,8. He has more than one head like "leviathan," and he has ten horns.

Daniel 7:17 - "These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth."

Yet, we read in Daniel 7:3 that the "four great beasts came up from the sea." Then, the reference to the "sea" is to a body of water on this earth, and not a "multitude of people" as the "waters" in Revelation 17. The word in Daniel is "sea," and the word in Revelation is "waters." These are two different words.

Daniel 7:17 - "These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth."

Notice, the scripture says "kings" first, and then "kingdoms."

Daniel 7:23 - "Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces."

This is the "fourth kingdom." Therefore, the four beasts in this passage begin with Persia and not Babylon, if we're going to match them with Daniel's image.

Notice the context of Daniel 7.

Daniel 7:22 - "Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom."

Here we find a post-Tribulation Rapture of saints in the Tribulation, and as the passage in Revelation 14:12 says, "Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."

In this passage in Daniel 7 notice the Antichrist in 7:25, and notice the peculiar expression "the end" in 7:26 and 7:28, exactly as we find it in Matthew 24:13.

Matthew 24:13 - "But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved."

Hebrews 3:14 - "For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end."

So in Revelation 13:1,2, we have a corollary in Daniel 7, and in Daniel 7, we are plainly told that it is a "king," as well as a "kingdom." This must be remembered because "the beast" is "a man" and "a king," and he is the main subject of Revelation 13.

Notice: Revelation 13:1 - "a beast." 13:2 - "the beast." 13:3 - "the beast." 13:4 - "the beast," "the beast," "the beast." 13:14 - "the beast," "the beast." 13:15 - "the beast," "the beast," "the beast." 13:17 - "the beast." 13:18 - "the beast." 14:9 - "the beast." 14:11 - "the beast." 16:2 - "the beast." 16:10 - "the beast." 16:13 - "the beast." 17:7 - "the beast." 17:8 - "the beast," "the beast." 17:11 - "the beast," 17:12 - "the beast." 17:13 - "the beast." 17:16 - "the beast," 17:17 - "the beast."

We might as well face it. There are a great deal more references to "THE BEAST" in four chapters of the New Testament than we have to water baptism in the entire body of the Pauline Epistles. This "beast" is very important. (See lecture notes on Revelation 11 about this "beast.")

Reference Scriptures:

Revelation 13:1 - And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

Revelation 13:1 - "And I (John) stood upon the sand of the sea (Mediterranean), and saw a beast rise up out of the sea (This beast is like a sea monster Job 41.), having seven heads and ten horns (We know that this beast is closely connected with Satan because in Revelation 12:3 it says, "a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns."), and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy (not crowns as in Revelation 12:2)."

Notice a slight difference. The "beast" in 13:1 has "upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy," and the "beast" in 12:3 has "seven crowns upon his heads" and no crowns on the ten horns. In Revelation 12:3, it is a "red dragon," in Revelation 13:1,2 it is a "leopard" with the "feet of a bear" and the "mouth of a lion." In Revelation 12:3 it is "seven heads" with "seven crowns," in Revelation 13:1 it is "seven heads" with "ten crowns." In Revelation 12:3 it is "ten horns" that are crownless. In Revelation 13:1 each horn has a crown. So there has been a change! This "great red dragon" has come down to the earth (He's no longer in heaven.), and he comes up out of the sea in the Mediterranean area! He comes up representing a ten-king kingdom instead of seven-king kingdom.

In these passages, we are sticking to what it says. If he says "seven crowns upon his heads" in one place, with no crowns on the horns, and says "upon his horns ten crowns" in another place, with no crowns on the heads, then that's it.

The "beast" of Revelation 13:1,2 is not identical with the beast of Revelation 12, but they are connected. The beast in Revelation 12 is Satan, and the one in Revelation 13 is Antichrist, who gets his power from Satan. Notice in Revelation 13:2, "and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority." The "dragon" has a S-E-A-T! Do we get this? This "dragon" was identified as Satan in Revelation 12, and is said to have a "seat" in Revelation 13:2. We have already seen a reference to this in Revelation 2:13.

Revelation 2:13 - "I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest

fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth."

"Where Satan's seat is." Where he sits. He'll sit in the holy of holies on the mercy seat in the temple in the Tribulation. But, he has a seat right now. If the Devil sat in his seat and spoke from his seat - "out of the chair" - to give infallible doctrine, do we know where he would be speaking from? He would be speaking "ex-cathedra," out of the chair, "out from the seat." Where did we ever hear that before?

Then, this "beast" who comes "up out of the sea" is a "man" (Revelation 13:18). See comments on Revelation 11:7.

The "beast" is represented as a "leopard" who has the "feet of a bear" and the "mouth of a lion." He is a man; he is connected with ten kings when he appears, and this ten-king-kingdom that he reigns over will appear in the Mediterranean area. This beast is connected with the "dragon," and gets all the power that the "dragon" has, because when he comes up this time, he is the Devil incarnate. When Judas appeared the first time, Satan merely entered into him to perform a work, but Judas was "a devil," not a human being. He becomes "the Devil" in the Tribulation. (He was not the Devil, but he will be the Devil.) Satan will incarnate himself in this man, and this man will become an unholy trinity, exactly as the Lord Jesus Christ was an incarnation of the Holy Trinity. This unholy trinity has three parts in it exactly as the Holy Trinity.

Revelation 16:13 - "And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet." (1) Dragon, Satan, the father; (2) Beast, Satan, the son; (3) False prophet, Satan, the unclean spirit.

Then, this man is a Satanic trinity, incarnated in the flesh, to represent the Lord Jesus Christ. In the Old Testament, we'll find all three members of this unholy trinity pictured, or typified, in one verse- Numbers 22:41. All three of the names in this verse begin with a "B," the second letter in the alphabet. (Ever notice that no book in the Bible begins with a "B"? Ever notice that 12 of them begin with "J"? Ever notice that many of the words in the Bible that begin with "B" are bad words, and many of the words in the Bible that begin with "J" are good words? We'll find that "Judah," "Jesus," "Jerusalem," and "Jehovah" pretty well fit, and we'll find that "Babylon," "Benjamin," "Balak," "Belial,'' and "Beelzebub" don't.)

Numbers 22:41 - "And it came to pass on the morrow, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, that thence he might see the utmost part of the people." Balak, the false king, type of Antichrist, took Balaam, the false prophet, type of the false prophet in Revelation 13, to the places of Baal, the dragon, Satan, type of the false god!

Revelation 13:2 - And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

Here we have the three beasts of Daniel 7 given in reverse order. Notice the passage carefully. "The beast which I saw was like unto a leopard," that's the main thing to notice. The beast is not like a "dragon," or "bear," or "lion," but he is like a leopard. As a matter of fact, the only thing different about this beast that is any different from a leopard is that he has seven heads (13:1) and ten horns (13:1). He has a mouth like a lion and feet like a bear, which a leopard does not have. Aside from these things, his neck, ears, nose, eyes, tail, chest, back, stomach, sides, and legs are those of a leopard. This is a monster; this is a composite monster - three beasts in one. The Hebrew word for "monsters" or "beasts" (in the plural), is "behemoth." We will find this Hebrew word in our English text in Job 40:15, where there is another picture of a composite, multiple animal, who is leopard, bear, and lion combined.

Then, this monstrosity which shows up is primarily a leopard- a spotted animal. Here we learn a great truth about Bible types. The Lord Jesus Christ, when He comes on this earth, is said to be "the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world." He is typified by a Passover Lamb in Exodus 12, and is a "Lamb to the slaughter" in Isaiah 53. So God's Christ, the Lord Jesus Christ, God's anointed, is like an animal that is white - not a spot on him (Exodus 12:2-6). But when God wants to reveal the Antichrist (the Devil's christ, the Devil's anointed, the Devil's "saviour"), then the beast that is picked is a beast that has spots all over him. "Can the Ethiopian (Ham, Nimrod) change his skin, or the leopard his spots?" This beast is spotted all over. That isn't all. He's integrated! A leopard is yellow-brown, like an Asiatic; he has a white stomach, like a European; he has black spots all over him, like an African! This is one composite man, put together to represent all three races. He is a half-breed Roman Catholic Syrian Jew. He is a Hamitic Jew who is over the Gentile church. He is a perfect composite, one-world, united, inter-related, integrated, synthesized, completely representative, total abomination who will have a universal appeal. A black man can keep up with him because he's got black spots on him; a white man will take him up because he has a white stomach; Asia will follow him because he is an Asiatic animal - yellow-brown.

"Spots," wherever they are found in the Bible always indicate something bad; they never indicate anything good. As people are anxious to get rid of pimples, blackheads, and blemishes, so is the Bible.

Ephesians 5:27 - "That he might present it (the Church) to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish."

Jude 12 - "These (unsaved people) are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots."

Jude 23 - "And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment spotted by the flesh."

We find that a spot falls on those who have the mark of the beast, and this spot is leprosy, connected with a "leopard." If we think this is far-fetched, don't forget Leviticus 13 (watch the 13's!), where we'll find that spot in verse 13, which is leprosy, and it is called a "bright spot" in verse 26 (2 x 13), and verse 39 (3 x 13). This spot is a plague that falls on a man, eats into his clothes and his house, as well as his body. "Can the Ethiopian change his skin (from Ham) or the leopard his spots?" A leopard is an African animal. The leopard's spots are black like the Ethiopian's skin. Back in 1600-1800 if they were going to kill a pirate, they gave him the "black spot." When anyone is going to a man up, he is "black-balled." This leopard is marked with a black spot. Check the references; Jeremiah 13:23, 2 Peter 2:13, Deuteronomy 32:5.

Now, the beast is a leopard, lion and bear, and yet, the main part is a leopard. According to big game hunters, these three animals have a rather peculiar habit. All three of these animals mark trees by slashing off a strip of the bark as high as they can reach. This is not just to sharpen the claws. All three of these animals will go through the jungle and reach up full length and put their one paw out, and slash off a strip of bark. They will mark a tree. (Trees, of course, in the Bible, are likened to people. They have families; they have roots - Christ is the "root of Jesse.")

Psalm 92:12-14 - "The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing."

Psalm 37:35 - "I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree."

Mark 8:23,24 - "And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking."

Bears, leopards, and lions mark trees. Hence, we're not surprised to find the "mark of the beast" in Revelation 13:16. Those who receive "the mark of the beast" (16: 12), receive a plague, or a pox, or a disease. (They also go to hell and burn forever, Revelation 14:1-11.)

The "mark of the beast," then, is a black spot. ("The mark of the beast" is not keeping the sabbath, or observing Sunday.) The passage is "the beast"; "the beast" is a leopard. Leopards are marked; the mark of a leopard is a black spot. All leopards are marked with black spots, unless they are solid black, in which case they are panthers. "Beware of a black cat!"

The word for leopard in Hebrew in "nimur," the one for Nimrod in Genesis 10:9. Nimrod comes from Ham; he is an Ethiopian, the son of Cush. "Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots?" The Ethiopian has "black" skin, and the leopard has "black" spots. The beast is a leopard. Well, how is a leopard marked? If it is the "mark of the beast" that we are looking for, and the beast is a leopard, then how is he marked? A leopard is marked with black spots. The black spot on a leopard is shaped like a Rosetta; that is, like two half-moons. If the spots are examined carefully, it will be seen that most of them resemble two, huge, black lips, pressed against the skin like a kiss. Since we know that Antichrist is probably Judas Iscariot, have we ever wondered why he betrays the Son of Man with a kiss? Why do people sign "love and kisses" with "XXXXXX"? The "X" and the "cat" are inseparable, and so is the color "black."

Study words that end in "X." A "paradox" is a mystery, and the Antichrist is called "the mystery of iniquity" in 2 Thessalonians 2:7; he takes over the world peaceably, and the Latin word is "pax"; he is a king, "rex"; he pretends to have the voice of God, "vox," when he speaks "ex-cathedra," out of the seat; he majors on kisses and "sex" (Revelation 2:20,21); he will "tax" the whole world; he will "vex" people and they will be beheaded with an "ax" (Revelation 20:4), and buried in a "box." Those who worship the Devil will receive a "pox," and it is a black "pox," "styx." It comes from a cat, "felix," for the leopard is a member of the cat family. A North American cat is a "lynx," but a Roman cat is a "felix." A man who is half-man and half-cat, as this man is, is a "sphinx." He is typified one time by Herod, who is called "fox." When somebody is "hexed", an evil spell is cast on them, as this one does with the number "six." He is actually a "jinx" or a "hoax." He is connected with "black," and black everywhere in the Bible is a symbol of night or death. Black never stands for purity, truth, honor, or bravery in any language, inl any nation. It is Satan's faith, Satan's christ, and Satan's church. We have found the "mark of the beast." It is black, for the beast appears as a leopard.

Revelation 13:2 - And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

Let's go back to Daniel 7 and locate this man exactly. In Daniel 7 we find all three of these beasts mentioned in the reverse order. In Daniel 7:3-7 it is a lion, a bear, a leopard, and a beast. In Revelation 13 it is a leopard, bear, lion, and beast. In Daniel 7:17, we are told that the beasts represent "kings" instead of kingdoms. It is true the fourth beast is called a "kingdom" in Daniel 7:23, but they are said to be "kings" in verse 17. So, if we knew the location of these beasts, we would have some idea about the Second Coming of Christ and the rise of Antichrist.

Daniel 7:1-3 - "In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters. Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea. And four great beasts came up from the sea. diverse one from another."

Daniel 7:17.18 - "These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth. But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever."

Notice that the beasts are terminated by the Second Coming of Christ. Notice that when the fourth beast is mentioned (verse 23), the Second Coming follows immediately. In verse 24 and verse 25 the fourth kingdom is the one mentioned in Revelation 13.

Daniel 7:24 - "And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings."

The one that comes up later (verse 25) is the Antichrist. The uniform interpretation of the passage is that the four beasts of Daniel 7 match the four kingdoms of Daniel 2. Notice how these two dreams (Daniel 2 and Daniel 7) are made to match by many scholars. We will see shortly that they don't match.

In Daniel 2 is the vision of Daniel's image, and this image is explained by Daniel as referring to the kingdoms which shall follow the King of Babylon. We'll notice in the interpretation, that the "head of gold" is Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon (verse 37). The next kingdom (verse 39) is the Kingdom of Media-Persia, followed by the Kingdom of Greece. The next kingdom (verse 40) is the Roman Empire, followed by the Antichrist's ten-toed, ten-confederated kingdom (verses 42-44). Notice that whenever the number "ten" shows up that the Second Coming of Christ follows it immediately. We no sooner have ten Gentile, than here comes Jesus Christ in Daniel 2:44,45, at the Second Advent. We no sooner have a ten-horned beast in Daniel 7:17 than the Lord comes back in 7:18. We no sooner have a ten-horned kingdom in 7:24,25, than we have the Second Coming in 7:26,27. Because of this similarity, these kingdoms have been matched by some scholars. They say that the lion (of Daniel 7:4) is the King of Babylon in Daniel 2:37. Then they say that the bear (of Daniel 7:5) is Media-Persia, in Daniel 2:39. They then say that the leopard (of Daniel 7:6) is Greece, in Daniel 2:39. Then they say that the fourth beast (of Daniel 7:7) is Rome, in Daniel 2:40, and that the little horn that comes up in Daniel 7:8,20, and 25 matches the toes in Daniel 2:41,42. Now, this looks real good; it looks real logical. There is just one thing that throws the whole system of interpretation clean out the window.

Daniel 7:1,3,17 - "In the first year of Belshazzar (who came after Nebuchadnezzar) king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters." "And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another." "These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth."

Then, the first one, the lion, has to come after Belshazzar is through, and Belshazzar is the last King of Babylon. Therefore, the lion of Daniel 7:4 cannot match the head on Daniel's image. The four beasts that come up in Daniel 7 are said to be four kingdoms or kings that come up after Babylon is all through. When Daniel has the dream, it is in "the first year of Belshazzar, the King of Babylon," but Belshazzar is murdered in Daniel 5:29,30, and the Media-Persians take over the kingdom. Therefore the lion of Daniel 7:4 has to match Media-Persia; the bear of Daniel 7:5 has to match Greece; the leopard of Daniel 7:6 has to match Rome; the fourth beast of Daniel 7:7 has to match Antichrist's kingdom, and here comes the Antichrist in Daniel 7:8. Now, this will match! Compare Daniel 7:1 with Daniel 7:17, and notice that those four beasts cannot come up until after Belshazzar, the King of Babylon, who is the last king that Babylon has.

The seven heads on the dragon were:

  1. Nimrod, King of Babel.
  2. Pharaoh, King of Egypt.
  3. Sennacherib, King of Assyria.
  4. Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon.
  5. Cyrus, King of Persia.
  6. Alexander, King of Greece.
  7. Caesar, King of Rome.

We learned in Revelation 12 that these empires entered into a mystery form, a religious form - the Holy Roman Empire. Out of this comes the other three kingdoms to make ten horns and ten kings.

Going back now to the Devil, in Revelation 12, he only has seven heads with seven kings, and he is the eighth. Yet, as the eighth king in Revelation 17, he rules with ten kings who have ten crowns.

Revelation 17:12 - "And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast."

The first beast in Daniel 7 is a lion. On Daniel's image (Daniel 2), he does not match the head, he matches the shoulders and arms - Media-Persia. As Media-Persia, he is a type of England (Ezra 1:1,2). Since the Jews were commanded by the king of Media-Persia to go back to Palestine and reinhabit it the first time under Persian reign, so they were ordered by the Balfour Declaration, under England, in 1918, to go back and rehabilitate it the second time. Persia is a type of England, the lion.

The second beast in Daniel 7, the bear, will match the "belly and loins" on the image in Daniel 2. This beast would probably represent Greece. Greece, a bear, is a type of Russia. Since Greece was Greek-Orthodox, so was Russia until the revolution in 1918; Russia comes from Greece, and Russia's alphabet and language come from Greece.

The third beast in Daniel 7, a leopard, will match the legs made out of iron on the image in Daniel 2. This beast would represent Rome. This Roman beast (leopard) would be a type of a super power like the United States.

The fourth beast, in Daniel 7, would represent the Antichrist's ten-king kingdom. Notice the ten horns at the end of Daniel 7:7. The Antichrist would come from this group, and take it over and run the earth with the ten kings under him, exactly as we find him in Revelation 13:2,3.

Daniel 7:24,25 - "And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time (1) and times (2) and the dividing of time (3)."

Where did we ever read that before? In Revelation 12 we read where "a time, and times, and half a time" was the length of time Israel was fed in the wilderness "from the face of the serpent." Three and a half years!

Daniel 7:26-28 - "But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him. Hitherto is the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my cogitations much troubled me, and my countenance changed in me: but I kept the matter in my heart."

Keeping in mind that the lion represents England, the bear represents Russia, and the leopard represents the some other super power like the United States, go back to Revelation 13:2 and we can read future history.

Revelation 13:2 - "And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard (The final world-kingdom is like the United States. It's spotted: its integrated. There's no pure blood left in it. lt's mixed. It's an Asiatic-African-European mongrel melting pot, with the white man on the bottom, as the leopard has a white belly. It is Asiatic all over, spotted with African blood.), and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion

This last form of ten-federated kingdom, under the Antichrist, is going to take over the whole world (Daniel 7:21, Revelation 11:7, Daniel 11:31-34, Revelation 13:7,8).

The man of Revelation 13:18 is a beast; he's "like unto a leopard." He takes over the earth with a ten-federated kingdom under the Roman Catholic Church; he takes it over under a Roman legal system like the old Latin system; he takes it over with a social system modeled much like the United States and employs an universal language. He takes over the earth for 3 years with ten other kings and they make war against Jesus Christ; they persecute Israel and kill them down to 144,000; they cut off their heads; they immolate them as human sacrifices to the Devil in the temple.

At this time, Satan will come down to this earth as a man, go into the temple at Jerusalem, sit on the "mercy seat" with one hand on one cherub and the other hand on the other cherub, and "as God sitteth in the temple of God. shewing himself that he is God" (2 Thessalonians 2).

Revelation 13:3 - And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.

One of the heads of the beast is cut off and wounded. It is either Nimrod (King of Babel), Pharaoh (King of Egypt), Sennacherib (King of Assyria), Nebuchadnezzar (King of Babylon), Cyrus (King of Persia), Alexander (King of Greece), or Caesar (King of Rome). One of these heads is "wounded to death" and the "deadly wound was healed." One of those nations that were cut off is going to revive and take over.

Revelation 13:4 - And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?

The Greek word for worshipped is "proskuneo," and it is the word for "kiss." They "kissed" him - exactly as it was called to our attention in Revelation 9:20. They "kiss" the Devil. In this worship of the Devil, they "kiss" him. XXXXXX!!

Romans 11:4 - "But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal."

Back in the Old Testament the men who did not worship Baal, didn't kiss him.

1 Kings 19:18 (6+6+6) - "Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him."

Luke 22:48 - "But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?"

"XXX under the mistletoe at Xmas."

Revelation 13:5- 11- And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. If any man have an ear, let him hear. He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

This man is a false prophet. As Judas is resurrected as the Antichrist, this man is a resurrected false prophet-perhaps Baalam. He's a "wolf" in John 10, typified by Deuteronomy 18:21,22.

Revelation 13:12-14 - And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

The Devil has power to do miracles (Revelation 16:13,14). The word in Greek for "sword" is a small sword like the one that Ehud killed Eglon with, in Judges 3:21 (see Revelation 2:16).

This Antichrist is an idolater who uses images. So as an imitation of Jesus Christ (a false messiah or prophet), he's called the "idol shepherd" in Zechariah 11:17. Notice that the context is Judas Iscariot, Zechariah 11:13. Look out for the "13's"!

Revelation 13:15 - And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

Here the Devil gets permission from God to "give life unto the image of the beast," proving that people who say that the Devil can't reproduce are wrong. He can get permission from God to counterfeit life, and he will.

Revelation 13:16-17 - And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name."

13:16,17 - "And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond (Free and bond? Man is not going to solve the integration problem. There are going to be people who are "free" and "bond" in the Tribulation!), to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name."

Then this man sets up an Ecumenical Council over the United Nations, takes over the world at Rome, and fixes us so that we can't get milk, bread, and butter for our babies unless we take a black mark right smack between the eyes, or in the palm of our hand, as when we kiss somebody on the forehead, or blow a kiss from the palm of our hand. We'll take it, or we can't buy! The government will require us to take a Social Security number now, to prepare us for what they are going to do. It is going to be a Federal offence not to take the mark of the beast. The unsaved religious leaders who are messing around and putting off Jesus Christ, God has got a monkey Wrench that is going to fit our nut! God Almighty is going to put us in a place where it is going to be a Federal offence for us not to worship the Devil!

Revelation 13:18 - Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred three score and six.

13:18 -"Here is wisdom. (Not hidden, Apocalyptic, figurative, symbolical, etc.) Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man (not "man," but the number of "a" man); and his number is Six hundred three score and six."

SIX! SIX! SIX! (As in John 6:66) HEX! HEX! HEX! We have his name it's Judas Iscariot: we have his mark - it's a "black" spot: we have his sign - it's a kiss; we have his nationality - he's Hamitic Syrian-Jew; we have his power he gets it from the Devil; we have his number-666. We'll find the number given two other places in the scripture.

Ezra 2:13 - "The children of Adonikam, Six hundred sixty and six."

The word "Adonikam" means "lord of the rebellion."

2 Chronicles 9:13 - "Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred and threescore and six talents of gold."

We are told to "count the number." The "christ" of Revelation 13:18 is clearly connected with two numbers in scripture; the number of man- 6, and the number of Satan - 13.

For a moment the Greek and Hebrew can bear some study. Every Hebrew or Greek letter has a numerical value. The man we are looking for is "666," be he in English, Greek, or Hebrew.

An endless excursion into the possible numerical combinations of these numbers is unnecessary. Commentators from Alpha to Omega have tried to prove that since an innumerable number of combinations are possible, which can be made to prove anything, therefore, there is no real meaning to Revelation 13:18, that it is only a figurative statement. But this will not do at all, for in the previous study this false "christ" has been narrowed down, and fenced up, and hemmed in, and boxed out, until we no longer have to go into a maze of numerology to find our man. We already know so much about this man, from the scripture given us, that it is frightening, and we know in which direction to look to locate the man. We shall look where the people looked, when they looked at Jesus Christ and then at Pilate and said, "We have no king but Caesar." Caesar shouldn't be too hard to find.

V V IL DUCE (Mussolini), will add to 666. In V V IL DUCE we observe Latin numerology. In Latin the V stands for 5; the L stands for 50; the C stands for 100; the D for 500. The "U" in DUCE, of course, is written as another "V," for Roman letters use the "V" for "U" as in PVBLIC LIBRARY. Thus, VV IL DUCE, "Long live the Duce," is a perfect 666.

Notice another, "VICARIVS FILII DEI." This inscription was borne faithfully on the forehead of many popes down through the centuries. Then, late in the 19th century, the College of Cardinals decided that they should get it off the popes' heads as quickly as possible because there was an ominous rumbling of Pre-Millennialism in the background. Some fanatical men named Moody, Spurgeon, and Cronin had gotten together with the "brethren," and some more things. The Cardinals said, "Get that inscription off his head." But the popes always used to faithfully wear the inscription "VICARIVS FILII DEl." It is Latin. It has a 500, and a 100, and two 5's, and a 50, and six l's in it-V=5, D=500, C=100, L=50, I=1. The E, A, R, S, and F are not Roman numerals. But notice what these letters spell out: FEARS! Coincidental? Every letter that is a numeral adds up to exactly 666. Strike out the non-numerals and all that is left is 666. Now, how long are we going to face these multiplied coincidences and go on shutting our eyes and saying, "Well, I don't believe in criticizing folks' religion"? VICARIVS FILII DEI means "Faithful Vicar of God," or "Vicarious (Substitute) Son of God," or "Shepherd Son of God."

The man in Revelation 13 is a Satanic trinity. As Satan, the father, he is Lucifer (the "anointed cherub" who covered the throne), who is fallen and will become incarnate as a religious leader in an universal religion at Rome. When the dragon comes down to this earth, this man has been the "pope," at Rome, for 3 years. Upon his incarnation at Rome, he becomes the Devil incarnate, and the spirit of Judas Iscariot comes up from the bottomless pit, and enters into this man. His soul, as such (in the man), is Satan; his spirit, as such, is Judas Iscariot; his body is the body of the major leader in the universal religion.

This is a very strange thing. This great religious pervert, who professes to believe the word of God, and professes to be the guardian of the scripture, appeals to scripture constantly for its points and then refuses to believe the scriptures mean what they say in regards to Rome herself.

Take for example a pamphlet called "Revelation, A Divine Message of Hope," No. 51, by the Knights of Columbus, which is published by the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus, Religious Information Bureau for the Roman Catholic Church, St. Louis 8, Missouri, says on page 13:

"One aspect of the Apocalypse that deserves special mention because it figures so prominently, is the image of Babylon (Revelation 17). Babylon, in the Book of Revelation, stands for the pagan Roman Empire, just as Babylon in 1Peter 5:13 doubtless means Rome."

Now, notice that the Knights of Columbus identify Babylon as Rome. But, they are very careful to tell us that it applies only to "pagan Rome!" This gives us a clue as to what the popes are going to do to the word of God. They are going to say that even though the word of God has called Rome a spiritual, religious, pagan whore, that since the Bible was written, things have changed/ Therefore, the Bible is no longer able to accurately tell us anything about Rome. That is, they are going to tell us that Revelation 17 and 18 applies to a Rome that is now gone. The proof for this is not derived from the Bible; the proof of this private interpretation is gotten from the traditional legends of Eusebius, Papias, and Constantine; they do not get it from the word of God. The Knights of Columbus continue with: "First is the picture of the great harlot, Babylon seated upon the beast (Revelation 17:1-6). The harlot is the Goddess of Rome (page 38)."

Now, notice how very carefully the Holy Spirit contradicts this private interpretation by the Knights of Columbus, and notice how accurately the Holy Spirit always corrects this Bible perversion by simply over-riding the interpretation. In Revelation 17:18, the Holy Spirit says (in any Bible) that "the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth." The Knights of Columbus said that the woman was "the Goddess of Rome!"

Tyndale's Bible in 1525 says: "And the woman which thou sawest is that great city which reigneth over the kings of the earth."

The Great Bible of 1539 says: "And the woman which thou sawest is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth."

The Geneva Bible of 1560 says: "And the woman which thou sawest is that great city which reigneth over the kings of the earth."

The Bishop's Bible of 1602 says: "And the woman which thou sawest is that great city which reigneth over the kings of the earth."

The ASV and the RV say: "And the woman which thou sawest is that great city which reigneth over the kings of the earth."

The RSV, 1946 and 1952 says: "And the woman that you saw is the great city which has dominion over the kings of the earth."

The King James, 1611, A.V. says: "And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth."

The Douay-Reims of 1582, which is the Roman Catholic bible that they profess to believe even as they pervert it, says: "And the woman which thou sawest is that great city which hath kingdom over the kings of the earth."

This means that the Knights of Columbus have deliberately attempted to deceive their readers; they have rejected the word of God, and inserted a private interpretation that has nothing to do with scripture. Now, quoting from pamphlet 51, page 38, of the Knights of Columbus, and not taking anything out of context, here is the entire passage.

"First is the picture of the great harlot Babylon seated upon the beast. The harlot is the Goddess of Rome. She is seated upon waters, the symbol of evil."

Revelation 17:15 - "And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues."

This material was published from 1955-60. It's not anything "archaic."

Revelation 17:15 - "And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues."

This is the reading from the official Catholic bible, adopted at the Council of Trent (1546). Here we have a dandy picture of the kind of "Bible teaching" that you get from the Roman Catholic Church. They use the Bible, and quote it to prove points, but they don't even believe their own Bible that they are using! There isn't a pope who ever lived that believed one book of the Bible, as it was actually written. If he happened to believe some of it, as it was found, it was because tradition demanded him to believe it!

Now "the waters" are not evil; they are "multitudes," "nations," and "peoples." "The woman" is not the Goddess of Rome; she is "a city." That is, if a Roman Catholic Bible is reliable!

Continuing on page 38 in the Knights of Columbus pamphlet, we read:

"The seven heads of the beast (Revelation 17:9) are seven hills on which the woman is seated, a certain reference to Rome, the City of Seven Hills. Here we see why John characterized the power of evil as Babylon, just as Babylon represented to the Old Testament Jew all that was wicked, and symbolized persecution, so does Rome in John's time."

See what they did that time? They made the Book of Revelation apply only to pagan Rome in the time of John the Apostle. The Roman Catholic Church has pronounced the entire Book of Revelation as being in the past, and applying to nothing except "pagan Rome," in the time of the Apostles! Yet all of Revelation 21 and 22 is dealing with eternity; Revelation 20 is dealing with the future one thousand year reign of Christ, and the Great White Throne Judgment, and every orthodox Catholic believes in the "Last Judgment" of Revelation 20. Revelation 13 deals with the Antichrist, who is yet to show up. They made the date of the writing of the Book of Revelation under the reign of Nero, 68 A.D., in order to take the whole book and put it into the past so that it will have no application to Papal Rome! To stop this excursion from the truth, the Holy Spirit upsets the apple cart in Revelation 17.

Revelation 17:6 - "And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration."

Notice that when John sees this "woman" he is shocked and upset, and wonders what she has been doing. If this "woman" were "pagan Rome, "John wouldn't have been the least bit upset, because John, himself, was a prisoner on the Isle of Patmos in 96 AD, due to Roman persecution! Why would John "wonder" about pagan Rome killing Christians? They were trying to kill him. The Holy Spirit has injected something here that messes up the whole system of private interpretation, taught by the popes to get rid of their identity. In the Roman Catholic Bible, you find the following:

Revelation 17:6 - "And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and of the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and I marvelled when I had seen her with great admiration."

The RSV says: Revelation 17:6 - "And I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints, and the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. When I saw her I marvelled greatly."

If this is "pagan Rome," what is John marvelling about? Is he just misled? Rome had him on the Isle of Patmos and he was being persecuted for "the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ." If John was a martyr and a saint of Jesus Christ, and Rome was after his blood, why would he marvel at this "woman," pagan Rome, being after his blood? In addition to that, the Lord Jesus Christ plainly told John about all these things before they ever took place.

John 16:1-3 - "These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me."

Therefore, the whole, subjective, private interpretation of Rome, regarding Revelation 17, turns out to be nothing but a wild, cock-and-bull story! In the place where this "woman" appears, we are beyond the Church Age, and the Church is not even present. Yet, this "woman" is said to be "drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus." But when this happens, the Church has left (Revelation 4:1-3). This couldn't be pagan Rome, because the Church was on the earth at the time of John the Apostle. There hasn't been one reference to the Church since it disappeared in Revelation 4!

Again, we have come upon a basic problem involved in Bible interpretation which we've talked about before. Whenever you try to figure out what a passage means or teaches, and ignore what it says, you will make it teach or mean what you want it to teach or mean, and you will reject what God told you. This has been the standard practice of a certain religion for nearly 1600 years.

Now going back to Revelation 17:1. We have seen what the Catholic Church does with the passage; now watch what the passage does with the Catholic Church.

Revelation 17:1 - "And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the GREAT WHORE that sitteth upon many waters."

Compare scripture with scripture, and watch it step all over the Knights of Columbus.

Revelation 17:15 - "And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues."

Isn't it wonderful how the Bible interprets itself? In Revelation 17:1 the "waters" are "peoples," "multitudes," "nations," and "tongues." Do we know why they are? Because the Bible says they are. It doesn't teach anything. It says it! Do we know what it means? It means just what it says!

Revelation 17:2 - "With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication."

You can run the passage right back to Revelation 2, and there you find:

Revelation 2:20,22 - "Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols." "Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds."

Jezebel was the pagan queen who married Ahab in the Old Testament. See comments lecture notes on Chapter 11. It was found to be Baal-worship, which called the black-robed priests "father," which worshipped Mary as the "queen of heaven" (called Isis, Osiris, etc.),and observed December 25th, the birthday of Baal, the Sun God, as the official birthday of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jezebel is pictured as a religious prophetess who incorporates fornication into the church as a part of the worship service.

Revelation 18:3 - "For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies."

Notice, there is no reference whatsoever to "pagan Rome." The earth did not "wax rich" by the abundance of pagan Rome's "delicacies."

Revelation 17:3 - "So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns."

There is no doubt about the "woman." Look at Revelation 17:18.

Revelation 17:18 - "And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth."

Now that's very clear. It is not the "Goddess" found in the pamphlet published by the Knights of Columbus. It is "that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth." It is not the great city that had an army of occupation in the city of Jerusalem at the time of John the Apostle (96 AD), and reigned over the occupied countries. This city, here, reigns "over the kings of the earth."

"Having seven heads and ten horns." We are not going to interpret, we are just going to read.

Revelation 17:12 - "And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast."

It couldn't be pagan Rome because pagan Rome didn't have "ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet, but received power as kings one hour with the beast." That isn't all!

Revelation 17:13,14 - "These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful." (Notice the Lamb shall overcome them, not the Church or the Christians; He is Lord of lords, and King of kings, Revelation 19:16; 11:15.)

The contest in Revelation 17 is between "ten horns" which are "ten kings" who fight against the "Lamb," the "King of kings," who comes back at the Second Advent and takes the earthly, literal, visible, physical kingdoms from these kings. Now watch the "Knights of Columbus" get around this thing with the most preposterous double-talk you ever heard in all your life. From the Knights of Columbus' pamphlet "Revelation, A Divine Message of Hope," page 39, we read:

"The ten kings in Revelation 17:12, given as an explanation of the ten horns of the beast, probably refer to the other kings of the earth, who in John's time shared in the power of Rome, though only partly for one hour. They too make up the world that is opposed to Christ, and assist in the persecution of the church. But, eventually, they and the beast will turn against Rome and destroy her. John not only predicts the destruction of the Roman Empire, by picturing the beast which has been previously described, he shows that he does not see the power of Antichrist simply identified with Rome. It is a power that continues, and will outlive Rome."

Now, notice how carefully the "Knights of Columbus'' have even garbled their own interpretation of the passage. They have been telling us for 38 pages that only pagan Rome is referred to in Revelation 17. Then, they suddenly decide that it is not really pagan Rome, but just Rome. But when they say "just Rome," they realize that this is they! So they take it and twist it and claim that it wasn't really a reference to Rome at all, but a "power" that continues which will outlive Rome! Then they are really in trouble, because Rome outlives pagan Rome by becoming papal Rome! The "pagan Roman Empire" becomes the "Holy Roman Empire," and all the disastrous implications which the "Knights" were trying to avoid come through with tremendous force! They are right! It is a "power" that outlives pagan Rome; it is a power "given to me in heaven and earth." (That's the power Jesus gives to Satan! He's the "prince of the power of the air," and all the kingdoms of the world are his.) It is the power that the "gates of hell shall not prevail against," because Satan owns the gates of hell.

The statement is not one class is a federation of kings who gang up on Rome, and then another class is a "power that used Rome," outlives Rome, and persecutes the Church under another form that is not Roman. The statement is that it is Rome, every shot!

The statement is that the "ten kings" (verse 12) are with the "beast" (verse 13), and "These shall make war with the Lamb." They're not going to persecute the Church; they make W-A-R with the Lamb.

Revelation 17:4 - "And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication."

Do you know of a city that "reigns over the kings of the earth," whose colors are "purple and scarlet," whose symbol is a "golden cup"?

Revelation 17:6 - "And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration."

Do we know of a city that "reigns over the kings of the earth," whose colors are "purple and scarlet," whose symbol is a "golden cup" (That wasn't the symbol of pagan Rome. It was a fascias, the blade and the rods bound together!), who is guilty of killing "the martyrs of Jesus Christ"? Ever read "Fox's Book of Martyrs"? Ever know that mystery Babylon has killed more born-again, Bible-believing Christians in one night than American Puritans, Protestants, Quakers, and Church of England did in 200 years? There have been more than 2 million Bible-believing Christians killed in Germany, France, Austria, Spain, Hungary, and Switzerland alone between 1000 and 1700 AD. That doesn't even include the persecutions in Italy, and South America.

Revelation 17:9 - "And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth."

To repeat, in Revelation 17 we find a city (verse 18), which is built on "seven mountains" (verse 9). The city has "purple and scarlet" colors (verse 4), and the symbol of the city is a "golden cup" (verse 4). The city has killed "martyrs" and "saints" (verse 6). This city is a political power (verse 18). This city loves gold first (Revelation 18: 12) and souls of men last (Revelation 18:13). The city is drunken (18:3), commercial (18:15), rich (18:12), proud (18:7), mystical (18:18), and damned by God (17:5).

Revelation 17:5 - "And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH."

Revelation 18:24 - "And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth."

Revelation 18:5,8 - "For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities." "Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her."

Pagan Rome did not sink like a millstone into the sea (Revelation 18:21). The Christians were not told to get out of pagan Rome; they died in it (Revelation 18:4). Not one verse in Revelation 17 will match pagan Rome completely.

Revelation 18:4 - "And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people (Remember "my people" and "thy people" as you have learned in these studies, are not Christians but Jews in the Tribulation.), that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues."

This was not written to Christians in 70 AD. We know that the woman is a city; we know she's built on seven mountains; we know her colors are purple and scarlet; we know her symbol is a golden cup; we know she kills martyrs and saints; we know she is a political power; we know she loves gold first and souls of men last; we know she's a drunken, commercial, rich, proud, mystical city that God has damned. Where the average investigator or scientist is only looking for objective truths in the physical realm, the Bible is dealing with moral absolute truths in the religious realm. The question is not, "Do we have the right interpretation?" The question is, "Having read the passage and understanding exactly what He is talking about, how would we feel if it were aimed at us?" Scientists, as Nicodemus, are interested only in the abstraction that involves someone else. Note: when Nicodemus asked Jesus, "How can a man be born again?", he doesn't ask, "How can I be born again?"

Now, before we join the crowd and attempt to eliminate the passage in Revelation 17 and 18 by changing the date, "interpreting figuratively," and all the hoaxes which have been undertaken in order to cover up their religious perversions - let us consider some facts.

1. If we read the passage, we did identify the city.

2. We identified the city with no help from the original Greek, or our official church's interpretation. In plain words, we don't have to go to high school to identify the city.

3. We could not possibly have identified this city as New York, Washington, London, Manila, Shanghai, Hollywood, New Orleans, Memphis, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Lisbon, Tokyo, Cairo, New Delhi, Suez, or anything else. We know what that city is!

4. We know what the passage refers to, we have full knowledge of it, and any man who ever read it had full knowledge about it.

The whole problem is - how are we going to get rid of the passage if we don't like it? That's how a "pope" handles the passage. There isn't a pope who ever lived that didn't know what the passage said when he read it - in his own bible! He has full knowledge of it. Every "pope" who every lived only has one problem - how to get rid of Revelation 17and 18.

This question is the first and foremost consideration of every translator and reviser who ever revised the Bible.

Revelation 17:5 - "And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH."

There is no doubt about what happened at all. Pagan Rome became papal Rome in 500 AD, during the transition period of Eusebius, Papias, Constantine, Cyprian, and Jerome's Latin Vulgate - 325 AD to 500 AD. When John next sees Rome, he no longer sees Rome as a pagan, Godless city that is opposed to New Testament, Bible-believing Christians in 96 AD. He sees her in a mystery form - "Mystery, Babylon the Great." He sees her as a woman on seven hills who professes to be the one true body, the "infallible pillar and ground of truth," and who professes to believe every Fundamental Doctrine in the word of God! She professes to believe the Virgin Birth, the Crucifixion, the Resurrection, and the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, and yet, she is occupied with murdering born-again, Bible-believing people, or Tribulation saints, or Jews in the Tribulation. That's why John "wondered with great admiration."

This woman is found in Matthew 13. Notice that every time she is found, she is pictured not only as a city, but as a religious prophetess handling doctrine, like the woman you found in Revelation 3:20.

Matthew 13:33 - "Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened."

This woman is never the church, as the church is only referred to as a "wife," "virgin," or "bride." This woman takes leaven, which is defined in scripture as false doctrine (Matthew 16:6-12), and hides it in three measures of meal - which is defined as "the children of the kingdom" (verse 38)- until the whole loaf is leavened and filled with corruption. This is Rome "shepherding" the Protestant branches of the church, and filling them full of rot. The woman is a prophetess, typified by Jezebel, and identified as a city built on seven hills, which is the mystery form of ancient Babylon.

Notice that the beast she is connected with (Revelation 17:3) is identical with the one found in Revelation 12:3. The beast she's on is not a leopard, which is yellow-brown, black, and white, but a "scarlet coloured beast," red! This means that the woman rides on Satan; she is connected with the ten-horned, ten-crowned kings of Daniel 2 (Revelation 17:12). This woman is cursed by God, and she is responsible for the death of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Revelation 18:24 - "And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth."

The saints were "chosen in him before the foundation of the world" (Ephesians 1:4). So whatever city crucified the Lord and Saviour is indirectly responsible for the death of every Christian that ever died. There is only one city that meets this requirement; there is only one city in hell, heaven, or on earth that put nails through His hands, a crown of thorns on His head, a spear in His side, and then professes to believe in Him; there is only one city that had Christians eaten in the arena, and burned at the stake, and went on professing to be the "Holy Mother Church" of all Christians; there is only one city whose colors are purple and scarlet, whose symbol is a golden cup, whose political shenanigans involve the "kings of the earth," while professing to be a church.
